Who Killed Victor Jara?

With and autopsy report of 44 bullet wounds in body, it was apparently group effort that took down the poet and folksinger in the bloodbath that accompanied Pinochet's rise to power. Recent court testimony is getting closer at the truth of exactly who did what, and names explicitly the captains, commanders, agents and conscripts involved and overseen by Nelson Edgardo Haase Mazzei, pictured above among friends enjoying the archetypal pastime of the scot-free.

You can find the names of everyone involved, and a description of how Victor Jara was killed, on Tomas Dinges' blog.

Dinges' post is a fine English-language summary of the investigative piece by Jacmel Cuevas of investigative site CIPER Chile detailing the testimonies about those who killed Victor Jara.

Thanks for pointing this out go to Marc Cooper who remembers Victor Jara as a remarkable Chilean folksinger of the pre-Pinochet years.
