Scandal At Santiago Times!
It's heart wrenching to have to report this but it's newsworthy: An intern at The Santiago Times is disgruntled! And only after like one week!

So, okay. Highlighting expert photographer JDKSnaps' balanced recommendation about whether or not to intern at The Santiago Times is representative of many other past interns' exact same feelings, not an isolated anomaly, but it is the latest. And last time I checked that's what "news" means. JDKSnaps writes:
But as much as it hurts, I'm obliged involve you. JDKSnaps wants to know which photo you think is better. His:

...or that of some overexposed and underexperienced hothouse "intern" chick:

Let the voting begin (Go JDK!).

To say that I'm having a frustrating time here at my current 'internship' would be an understatement. It is amazingly disorganized and lacks leadership, with the chief editor stating that he wants basically no involvement with any of photography decisions. There is no photo-editor position here, which means that the current "photographers" (in scare-quotes because the photogs here have less experience than me...yet act like they have been working for the NY Times for 10 years, yikes) are left to work things out.Of course, you can find many happy interns too. Like me. I love The Santiago Times, despite their typos, and I love JDKSnaps. Which is why it pains me to see these two going at it so.

Hang in there JDK.
Revolver is here for you.

JDK - the winner BY FAR.
I don't know why the times wouldn't be embarassed to print the other
I'd vote for JDKs shot. But given the wonders of photoshop, the other could easily be made to look more lively and action-filled.
I like the JDK shot. Better lines, more artful. Will you know what artful means right. Also, can you put the hothouse intern's name up, so we can rip her apart in good C.hileno fashion.
Also, did I hear that C.hileno "loves the Santiago Times"
WTF????
Also...JDK blog post is ONLY ACCESSIBLE TO INVITED READERS...WTF two times!!!!
Secondly...JDK, what the hell are you doing at Santiago Times. Your photos are too good for such a non-visual product.
Go find Javier Godoy, or Tomas Munita for chilean photographers
Yes, Loves. I've a whorish sense of diplomacy. And there may be some true love too, I grow fonder the less I read it.
I don't know who that intern is, JDK didn't say. And I haven't the heart to tear her apart, JDK's photographic question was rhetorical.
It'd all make sense if he hadn't crawled into shameful "invitation only" status, seems my post was the kiss of death for his pretty good blog, he did this Santiago Street Fashion series that was pretty epic. But it turns out he doesn't have balls like ours, Tomas, us clashing titans of the chilean english language blogosphere circa 2006-2008.
"WTF am I doing here?" is a question I'm asking myself as well lately. Guess it seemed like a good "foot in the door" down here without having to worry about a work visa in Chile. Might turn out to be more of a foot in the rear that will ultimately send me to more demanding climates.
A thousand pardons for taking my blog private, but the ineloquent bitching is meant for friends and family, not for people at the Santiago Times (who are no doubt avid Chileno readers) to discover. I have enough frustrations with the way things are going there (or, rather, not going there).
For those interested I've started a public blog with photos here:
www.jeffkennelphotography.blogspot.com
or you can always find some of my work in Chile here at my website:

Just got back from Chiloe and will be posting some more photos soon.
Cheers,
JDK
