7.7 Earthquake Hits Northern Chile
Not just me, it seems God has recognized Chileans' inherent sinfulness and struck a warning blow. No casualties, no tsunami, next time not so nice.

Updates on the earthquake in Northern Chile. NowPublic.
UPDATE: PROOF of Divine Intervention. While "Chile Earthquake" is number one in Google Trends, guess what's number 2???? Semitic Deity.
Also, Bloomberg points out that a powerful elite with ties to the Catholic Church could have called in a favor from God to spike the price of copper so as to meet 4th quarter projections.
Bloggers' blogs about the Chile earthquake:
Live feeds updating the Chile earthquake. Chuck Adkins.
Chilean Earthquake newsworthy?. Cat Dirt Sez.
News about Chile earthquake. Lalate.
Advises tsunami preparedness for Hawaii and Asian coasts (although that seems moot by now). The Good Democrat.
UPDATE 2: Francotirador providing continued Chile earthquake reports [ES], tells us that one sinner has died. We're all sinners.
Urban Platform contributes news about the Chilean earthquake that rocked Chile [ES], noting that seismic soundness of Chilean architecture is responsible for minimal structural damage, while in characteristic Chilean government crappiness Onemi - the disaster response department - was hit the hardest, down for the count. Now, before any of you wants to make some inane remark about FEMA I'm going to preemptively discount your remark, because you are a sinner.
UPDATE 3: More Chile earthquake news [ES]. Also, it was to be expected: Chile is now begging the pope to come sanctify the blighted land.
UPDATE 4: In a show of abominable crassness one Chile blogger is making light of the November, 2007 Antofagasta earthquake.

You wanna back up that statement with evidence? Imbecile.
I made three citations in the above post. If you care to look, the USGS has a detailed list of sins for which God hath wrought His devastation upon the North.
And watch you mouth, Jim - it could be you next time.
Ok, so it wasn't one of your lame jokes, which makes it worse. I get the feeling you're trying to make enemies with this post.
Jim, maybe you should go to Insult School because you totally lost me. It's fine if you wanna try to bring me down I enjoy a good spat but you're totally incoherent, you give me nothing to work with.
Try again.
One 88 year old woman has died tragically.
I'm assuming you know nothing about her - so don't say she's a sinner. She may have been a devout Catholic, for all we know.
Beth
FEMA.
Hmm, what if one lives in an area outside the affected zooone(that's just a cool word)?
Am I still a sinner Pastor G?
Or is this a kind of specific punishment for some specific peoples?(ex: brow bloodied/unbowed pagan old ladies)

Also, you can't spell lesion without sin.
Proof enough for me.

>>>so don't say she's a sinner. She may have been a devout Catholic, for all we know.
Haha! Catholics don't sin. Good one, LOL. If they don't sin, why the hell do they confess so much??? ROFLMAO.
The death tally has been reported at two.
Two what? Say it with me - two sinners.
Also help if you could cite your source, sinner.
I'm a 22-year old Chilean currently living in the US. Been living here since I was 12 so you can imagine the amount of nostalgia mixed up with surreal images of old childhood memories that blind me from the reality that is Chile at this point in time.
As I looked for news concerning this New Earthquake (I lose count, honestly) I find some rather cynical, perhaps even tasteless, posts regarding this tragedy on your blog.
I read in horror and disbelief, yet I kept reading. I read, looked for any constructive points you'd be trying to make with such unusually aggressive writing style, stopped and started reading again. Then I realized it was my own self hating complex making me continue.
I felt Chilean again. But I also wouldn't be a Chilean without branding you as a condescending gringo. So here it goes:
Gringo condescendiete de mierda!
Greetings!
>>>I find some rather cynical, perhaps even tasteless, posts regarding this tragedy on your blog
Cynical, perhaps. But if so, my cynicism is dwarfed by that of God, who would take a bribe in order to jack up the price of copper. Tasteless? God killed two people. Talk about tasteless.
The thought of a corrupt god brings a certain feeling comfortness in me. At least I'd be able to understand him/her a little better. Katrina would be a good example. Drove up the price of the sacred oil barrels a good chunk. You might be on to something.
But this? I don't think this god would have under his/her list of priorities such a forsaken land. Thus, the only thing I can gather from your post is your tasteless cynicim. Could you have gotten better at being a "chileno" than the own natives? Perhaps I'M onto something now!
Isn't enough punishment that someone like you would inhabit it? I certainly think so. As you can see, as well as being a cynic, "god" has become quite the comedian. Greetings!

Bye looser ¡¡¡
You spelled loser wrong but it's okay.
What you did do well was take irony to a whole new level by implying solidarity with earthquake victims while sticking up for Pinochet's junta, which killed over 3,000, tortured over 30,000 and sent thousands into exile.
That is funny.
Sad to you go :-(
oops, sad to see you go.
Honestly. He was growing on me like fuzzy, cuddly, fascist teddy bear.
It's ok, I'll stick around. Self-loathing to the max. It'll be a pleasure to point out the inaneness in the vast majority of your writing, which reads like a Lovecraft horror... excepting the Lovecraft part, of course.
So many valid points lost amidst a sea condescending rambling. Una pena.
Seba, I wasn't talking to you, although it's interesting you would confuse yourself with a self-proclaimed fascist. Probably just masochistic solipsism, expectable for someone who spends so much time looking hating themselves:
I wasn't afraid of losing you :-)
I'm not about to feed you paranoical needs by claiming to be a fascist, which seems to be a label that you like to throw around (although , I have to say, that guy probably deserved it). Ahh, a Marc Cooper reader? Gotcha.
By the way, the only instance I engage in self loathing is whenever I load this forggoten place. For you, it seems to be everyday you wake up. :) Must be a fun life.
Greetings!
Your lucidity increases with each comment, Seba. It's okay, it's getting late, been a long day for you I'm sure. You used a lot of big words. You've also accidentally loaded this page - and hated yourself - at least 4 times already. Ouch.

" If you care to look, the USGS has a detailed list of sins for which God hath wrought His devastation upon the North. "
By USGS do you mean the United States Geological Service?
If so then you are clearly misinformed. By the way, who made you the official interpreter of what "God" is doing and why he's doing it?
It's an earthquake. Earthquakes happened before humans existed and there were any "sinners" to punish. It's an earthquake, not a "punishment" and not "wrath" -- just an earthquake, moron.
Why do Catholics confess? So that God can forgive their sins. If this woman was a devout Catholic, and did confess, why would God want to punish her, when He has already forgiven her?
Beth
Don't be so slippery, Beth. This was your original argument:
>>>so don't say she's a sinner. She may have been a devout Catholic
You lost, because I reminded you that being a Christian means that you are a sinner.
Now you try to change the terms of the argument, and draw me in to my original - obviously facetious supposition that Sin is what wrought the tragedy. Well, I'm not going to sit here and seriously defend that - it was a joke yet part of that joke is that "we're all sinners" which reduces the tasteless factor because it is an implicit admission that I don't think people who are suffering "deserve" it any more than I would.
Nice try, though.
Oh, and you Sr. Anonymous who says:
>>>
If so then you are clearly misinformed. By the way, who made you the official interpreter of what "God" is doing and why he's doing it?
Are you calling God misinformed? Do you know what He does to sinners???
One more thing, Brilliant Beth, did you happen to notice I reported that a Semitic Deity was behind this (according to Google Trends). And you prattle on about how confessing to some Catholic God should have saved that sinner. Hogwash.
Chele, I'm gonna say it: you're the only decent sinner on this thread. You're abso-fucking-lutely right you can't spell 'lesion' without 'sin'. Thank you! Now CONFESS.
Confess your lesions!
I am a heretic and a heathen.
No Jesus for me.
Small sort of p.s.:
As a hybrid chilean export I have to say: Very fun sense of humor.
Also kudos to you for exposing the rampant sexism.
