This is a Picture of a Horse
that I am about to beat to death.

...in yet another reference to the FIFA Chilean Soccer team and Toronto police brutality, I'd like to reiterate my strong support of an independent investigation into the matter, despite the Toronto PD's version of events. After all, Chile's cries of "racism" and "unjustified aggression" were harsh accusations, serious stuff that you'd assume Chile would want to get to the bottom of.
What not call in the United Nations?
What's that? You're not convinced of the efficacy of the UN in mediating international complaints of Human Rights? You've got a point. After all, when they came to Chile in 2003 to report institutionalized racism behind brutal attacks against Mapuche Indian communities, it appears Chile turned a deaf ear. Their recommended changes were completely ignored. That's according to a recent UN letter signed by Norwegian People’s Aid, Amnesty International and the Center for Legal Studies of Argentina, among others.
Really all that proves is that the UN can't do its job right, and get themselves heard by Chile. So naturally Chile wouldn't hand over the grave responsibility of defending the Human Rights of its U20 darlings. Well, if not the UN, perhaps Chile might want to contract the job out to the Center for Juridical and Social Studies of Bolivia, who along with Chilean and Argentine organizations have filed a 30-page report detailing state violence against the Mapuche.
These guys can do their homework. Look at their attention to detail as they highlight the July 24, 2006 police raids on the Temucuicui Community, for example. I'd personally vouch for these human rights organizations, and I'd also urge you to give the UN a second chance. With an all-star team like this, Chile, you'll inject fear in the ranks of the Toronto PD, they'll understand you're serious.

Well said.
I think it's often the case that cries of "racism" is used as a gimmick, when real racism is all but ignored. After we collectively realize what happened, (Mapuche, Civil Rights in the US), then we all act like we're deeply wounded by what happened, while we ignore whatever is going on now.
Awww my little pony! Why didn't you bleach him pure white: He is much to brown! ;)
What is Temucuici???
What is that white splattered brown crap draped over the saddle?
A luggage porter at the Amtrak station in DC is reading a book about Jim Crow. He said its required reading for me, you know. I stuttered a response and said I had been out of the country. Meanstwhile, I am still looking for my African queen.
>>>What is Temucuici???
Required reading (as in the link, dude).
I know this happened some time ago but I remember it quite well. As I recall the Chileans were behaving in a rather childish manner after suffering a pretty embarrassing defeat. Right after the game finished some of the Chileans tried to go after the officials.
After the game when the Chileans were greeting their fans a little squirmish ensued with fans, players and police. One of the Chilean players hit a female police officer and that's what really started the whole thing. The Chilean team should have known better. Canada isn't South America and that kind of behaviour, whether it be from soccer players or fans, is not tolerated here. I think the Chileans got what they deserved and should be ashamed for even implying racism. Remember, this took place in THE most multicultural city on earth. So leave the race and police brutality out of this. You hit a women, especially a female officer, you'll get what you deserve.

They acted out precisely because it's not south america. Those kids know damn well that if they tried to hit a cop in Chile they'd be beat down to an unrecognizable pulp.
