Latinamericanism and Global Voices
Maybe they're just inept, but I think it's a lot more fun to read into this than to assume what's probably the case. But I suspect that Global Voices, who totally mishandled Chile's mishandling of the Canada-FIFA-Toronto Police-Chileans soccer twats debacle, doesn't consider Canada as "Global" as Chile. In this "Global" world, some countries are more "Global" than others, it appears.
So anyway, after I reacted over there some nitwit shot back:

There must be a good reason why she is President of a country and the above writer is NOT. This is not a political issue. This is an issue about extreme violence being used. If police agression were to be use on any of our Canadian team, I’m sure, a Canadian representative would take action. Such behavior is not acceptable. My comment is still in moderation, it's not particularly brilliant but I'll throw it down here until then (if it even makes it in):
Ouch. I’m not presidential material. Wow, that really hurts. How’d you know I was planning this whole time to weasel my way to the top!A big f-w-i-w.
Bachelet and a slew of Chilean politicians from the right and left spoke WAY too soon and turned it into a political issue. You’re right, Ms. Perez, it’s not. But they made it one. And no, it was not excessive force according to the Toronto police, which actually investigated. Listen, I have an open mind and I’d be happy to hear what a Chilean investigation reveals. But up to now it’s only been accusations - and even confession of Chilean brutality that instigated the whole incident!!!
They spoke too soon, and you, blindly guided by their wrongheadedness, have followed in their footsteps.
Furthermore, I think it was grossly irresponsible for Global Voices to air the Chilean opinion, without including the Canadian opinion. It is a text book example of “Latinamericanism” (analogous to Edward Said’s Orientalism, look it up) in which this do-gooder website hopes to promulgate a biased defense of Chile. In the process, it exposes the worst of Chile - hypocrisy which unfortunately didn’t escape the president herself.
>>>There must be a good reason
You fail to enlighten us what that good reason is. Because she’s president, she must know. We blindly follow. Bahahah. (sheep sound). No, Ms. Perez, it’s cynical populism. She spoke too soon and made a fool out of herself.

If I never heard another word about the woe is me poor, little innocent Chilean soccer players who were beaten down by the big, bad Toronto pacos, I'd be one happy camper.
I had made a comment on somebody else's blog about the story saying the same thing that you mentioned a while back...that an investigation OF the Toronto police BY the Toronto police should not be considered conclusive. But, until an independent investigation comes out with it's findings I don't want to hear more.
Anyways, I'm the same "spammer," you thought was hot over at the TomasDinges blog, fyi. Also, if your stats say I've been on your blog for the last 8 hours, it's true. But don't flatter yourself too much...during that time, I went to the grocery store, made dinner, ate dinner, did dishes, watched Alguien Te Mira, wrote a blog post of my own, and then came back to your blog. Although I'm not going to lie, I did read all your archives. In my own defense I'm a fast reader and you don't have many archives.
Toronto "cerdos" I believe it was...
Anyway, glad this blog is so captivating it makes you want to jump up and run errands. I suspected you were the one spamming Tomás too, I read some of both your blogs, good start, I'll slap them up in the coercive chile blog directory mañana like the millions others I've been filing away. It's gonna be big. You did the right thing by turning yourself in. Please snitch on all the other Chile blogs you find and you'll get extra points when it comes time to review you.
