Rate Me (again)
So I was enjoying my free cable TV over the weekend, checking out world news on the BCC and they did a segment on Silicon Valley and all of a sudden my friend Lawrence's RateItAll.com site showed up, being featured as a prominent Web 2.0 social networking thing alongside Twitter and others, I found the BBC Feature Online.
My question now is - why the hell aren't you rating me? I've had the RateItAll widget up for like months, I filed a compelling call-to-action and I've only gotten 10 reviews??? What's up with that? Granted, second most reviewed blog in the "travel blog" section has, well, 2 reviews, so I'm clearly in the lead, but I swear to God it's not enough. I want more!
But it's not about me, and my wants. It's about you. By not using RateItAll.com, you're essentially saying to the world that you're too cool for skool. You don't waste your time on all this nerdy Internet shit like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, whatnot. You've got better things to do. Right.
Okay, I'll admit that I don't use my MySpace account and I don't really understand the FaceBooks, but for Christ's sake I'm a fucking blogger! I'm more of a loser than you would ever hope to be so just bite the bullet and start typing:
Don't like to register? Oh yeah? Tell me, with a straight face, that you'd be spending the 47 seconds it takes to register doing something really productive and good for humanity. For the love of God you just spent over a minute reading this blog, so stop whining and start typing.
Anyway, someone recently pointed out my white privilege for having doubled-paned glass and free cable rigged and that's right, but at the same time it reminds me of how my girlfriend recently went to visit a friend who lives in the cuts and she thought it was odd how her friend, who's totally poor and has a baby, had a couple electric heaters going full blast for hours and curling irons and tons of other electric appliances teeming with warmth and brilliance. This in the midst of some sort of "energy crisis" that Chile's going through where the rates are through the roof, the latter of which is arguably a product of Pinochet's deregulation and privatization (these crooks must have learned a thing or two from California's energy "crisis", different from a "shortage" mind you).
Even fucking water is expensive, for water. Well, obviously, it's a common practice for this girl and I'm sure others among the millions in the cuts of Santiago to "adjust" their electricity meters, and it apparently works, they a nominal fee every month and suck up all the juice they want. Oh, how the companies are suffering. As if. If only.
Anyway, have you rated me yet? Why not? I honestly love getting rated because I get some great, positive, intelligent feedback that provides real guidance and I think it ultimately affects the quality of this blog. For instance, check out this snippet of the latest rating I received:
I don't like to go on a long list and sucking somebody's dick, but I think your blog is those kind that makes you came back and read what tha fuck happends next....
It's truly heartwarming, and pithy, but don't be shy I'm not necessarily looking for eloquence, or even love. Just say what you feel, rate the hell out of me for all I care. I'll say it once again, START TYPING!

Your blog is coming along nicely. Just take a look back at some of the earlier entries. It is a matter of time when your blog is either profiled, or linked by one "big boys". Thus ushering a slew of new viewers. Most bloggers who are very succesful today, did not realize they had that big of an audience. Just keep writting what you are passionate about. :)
