Tuesday the 13th
Being a foreigner has its ups and downs. Let's talk about the downs. Like, the more complex the concepts I try to explain when speaking, the more jumbled the Spanish grammar and I should have just kept my mouth shut.
Another thing is Friday the 13th, which nobody cares about here, leaves me not only fearful, but alone. Come Tuesday the 13th, I can act like I don't care amidst an entire nation slightly on edge.
Turns out thirteen is bad no matter what day of the week it falls on. But according to the Internet, Spanish tradition assigns extra heebee-jeebees to Tuesday, or Martes which takes its name from Mars, the God of War. Anglo-saxon tradition took on Friday for the religious commemoration of Good, aka "Killer", Friday.
Before the Internet, I remember hearing from a source who aspired to Internet level credibility that the number 13, or some strange math with 1 and 3, resulted in ancient numerology's "harvest", meaning it's not necessarily bad luck, you just get what you deserve, or what's coming back to you.
Perhaps another Chile blog can shed some light on the issue?
Either way, have a good one!
