Heartbreak in Santiago

If Santiago's unmeasured carbon monoxide standards, plus a frightfully generous qualification of "Good" to air with up to 100 particles-per-whatever (while other countries sound the alarm bells at 30-or-so particles) has become kvetch, kvetch, "old news" to you, well I've got news for you:

The Heart. Unlike the lungs (15% survival for lung cancer victims after the first 5 years), you've only got one of them. Now it's been shown that bad air quality plus fatty foods activates genes which cause heart disease.

Luckily Santiago cuisine particularly noted for its careful avoidance of trans fats and an innovative culture of experimentation with low fat, high fibre, vegan alternatives. Even the horse jerky [ES] is arguably lean.

I'm surprised no else has commented on this. Well it's you said so many times before. Not many Santiaguinos really care about the air pollution in their city and its affects on their health. Perhaps when they reach toxic levels as in Linfen China just maybe people will get their act together.
