Nitrate-rich guano from Peru, like Chilean nitrate, is another one of the exploited natural resources of the region, where labor is cheap and rainfall scant or nonexistent.

But for all the lives and limbs foregone, state-corporate massacres, labor movements spawned only to be Finally Crushed decades later, it's nice to see an example of the fruits of such lucrative fertilizer; a lonely Baron and/or Weón-Entrepreneur dies in Paris and Saint Laurent throws in the towel. But stepping back...where would the world be without these great men?
