Chileno FAQ

Chileno, you're not from Chile. How can you call yourself "Chileno"?
Long story.
How come you're Chile's Favorite Blog?
I don't really know. I became the favorite blog of Chile about a year ago, and have remained so, uncontestedly. Among English language blogs about Chile, in terms of traffic, I think the claim is accurate.
Why did you move to Chile?
Any connection to my nickname Chileno is purely accidental. I'd heard from many people that Chile was kinda weird, and I was really fascinated with Argentina for a while. But I'd met more Chileans, had friends here and knew people who had visited, so it made more sense.
Why do you still live in Chile?
If you're looking for hip, cultured and functional place to live, Chile is not it. It's also outrageously expensive for a third-world country. But every time I try to directly write about what I like about Chile it comes out really cheesy. I haven't tried that hard. Until I do, I'll just leave it to the round-about descriptions of people and places that show up elsewhere on this blog.
Why do you complain so much about Chile?
Everything I write is a reflection of my thoughts and experiences I choose to relate that pertain to Chile. Naturally, there's good and bad, and both are reflected here, I think. If it's "balanced", it's not intentional, I just write what comes to heart and mind. That said, at one point early on I was blogging along, minding my own business and someone left a comment saying they decided to move to Chile, based in part on my blog. I won't flatter myself: I'm sure they were planning to move anyway and they just found something that said nice things about Chile and used it to convince themselves that they were convinced or something. Anyway, it gave me pause because I didn't really want to paint a rosy picture when that didn't reflect the entirety of my experience, and likely many other peoples' experiences as well. It wasn't exactly a lightning and thundercloud moment, and it's just one of many reasons I choose to bitch about Chile, but I think it's as good as any because while people never fail to remind me that there's problems everywhere you go, those of Chile are unique to Chile.
If you complain so much about Chile, why don't you just leave?

no doubt, you are a chileno :-)
I live in the U.S. Are you saying that TVN Chile is lying to me?

This guy's Chilean to the bone already... no doubt. Welcome to your adoptive homeland! (and, please, keep complaining. It keeps the culture alive).
Born-Chilean (as if it matters)
You you can consider yourself adopted. The thing is, I like to complain too. Love some of the stuff you write and hate some of it too. A balanced world. Figures.
