Pichilemu
The seaside town of Pichilemu purports to have the best waves in Chile. It's about three hours southwest of Santiago, taking the bus. If you want to surf in Chile, go to Pichilemu, it's where all the famous Chilean surfers go to catch some righteous waves.
Woo-hoooo!

Major buzzkill though was I had to hop on the loser cruiser goin' down to Pichilemu there to meet up with my surf bras Kat and Mauricio a few weeks ago. It took like three gnarly hours, but man. Totally worth it. Yeah, dude, waaay tubular.
The waves really sucked. They would probably make for good learning conditions. There's a surf school. It's called Escuela de surf
We stayed in a cabin in Pichilemu, with a nice view of point lobos (where the biggest waves are). The cabin was humble, but comfortable. One room, with a loft. About 10 people stayed there. We watched the sunset over the Pacific Ocean, and had a nice barbeque, then went to a disco later.

Here are some pictures of the cabin.
